My Story

Inflation Bites was born during the 2022 pandemic, when I moved to part-time remote employment while grocery prices were skyrocketing. I began to post recipes and strategies on Facebook aimed at helping my family and friends beat the rising cost of groceries. I was finding myself typing recipes into Messenger, sometimes to strangers. I clearly needed a website. At the same time, my daughter had just moved into her first college apartment with a kitchen, and she and her roomies were struggling with the cost of groceries and with prep strategies. She encouraged me to write food preparation for Generation Y and Z, many of whom are learning to cook on their own. When I reserved the site InflationBites.com, I thought I would do this for a few months, until grocery prices went down again. Turns out inflation is with us now, and there doesn't seem to be an end to rising prices. For many of us, this means less eating out and more cooking with modest ingredients in our kitchens.

The recipes I post are not just cheap foods, although I try to keep them under $20 for 4 people. They are classics, like Beef Wellington, Beef Bourguignon, and Cioppino. But gourmet recipes often call for costly ingredients that are beyond most of our budgets. The good news is that you can use cheaper cuts of meat and frozen seafood, together with ingredients from discount groceries, to produce outstanding food without breaking the bank. If you love to cook or are just getting started, cook with me. Tell me if you improve the recipes, or, better yet, post and tell everyone. We are in this together, even if eggs cost a fortune.

Happy Cooking
